The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Getting Rouse where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ladd McConkey. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Kiran Amegadjie at par in pick No. 68, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Brenden Rice in the 103rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ben Sinnott in Round 5, Pick 1. It fills a real need, too.
Dwight McGlothern at No. 180 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Walter Rouse in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Fair-plus on Frank Gore Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
