There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cardinals took Zach Rice a full 56 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Milroe pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 8 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
They reached into another round for Tyleik Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Jalen Milroe still on the board at No. 70. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jay Higgins at slot 106 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Zach Rice. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jamaree Caldwell at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
