They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Pritchett steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Lee left real value on the table behind him.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Williams at the 3rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had Troy Fautanu higher than Round 2, Pick 2, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Devontez Walker in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Braelon Allen in pick No. 103 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Theo Johnson, who had no business lasting to slot 137. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nehemiah Pritchett in pick 180 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had cheaper options than Logan Lee at No. 199, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevin Wallace. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Bub Means in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
