The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Every board in the league had Vidal lower, and that gap is the story. Landing Jacobs that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Drake Maye at the 3rd pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Adonai Mitchell in slot 34 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Kiran Amegadjie went about where he belonged in pick No. 68. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Mahogany at Round 4, Pick 3 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Christian Jones at No. 137 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Tip Reiman at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Kimani Vidal at pick 193, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Curtis Jacobs still on the board at the 231st overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
