They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.

The Rakestraw Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The veteran additions, Khalil Mack chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
