They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
McCormick falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Quinyon Mitchell slid further than he should have, and slot 34 is lovely value for the cornerback. A minor itch, scratched.
They did well to land Ladd McConkey in pick No. 35, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Fisher. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Braelon Allen went about where he belonged in the 102nd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 36 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Theo Johnson in the 137th pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Mason McCormick at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
