The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Travis. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Adonai Mitchell at No. 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kiran Amegadjie in the 68th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They did well to land Cam Hart in pick No. 103, just ahead of his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Sataoa Laumea in pick 137 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Fabien Lovett. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Jordan Travis in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Frank Gore Jr. at slot 231 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
