The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Wiley reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Getting Hart where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Adonai Mitchell. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in the 68th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cam Hart at No. 102 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in slot 136, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Jared Wiley at Round 6, Pick 4 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kimani Vidal in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
