After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They are betting Laube proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Tyler Guyton at pick 42 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Brenden Rice in the 68th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They liked Mohamed Kamara enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ben Sinnott in No. 133 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
A conviction pick on Dylan Laube at pick No. 136 that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Baker at the 182nd pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Omar Speights in Round 7, Pick 9, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
