The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is McGlothern. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Laube pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Ladd McConkey at the 34th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kiran Amegadjie in pick 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They let Dadrion Taylor-Demerson come to them and pounced at No. 103. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Dylan Laube in pick No. 137 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Tip Reiman in slot 180, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Dwight McGlothern at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Taking Julian Pearl in Round 7, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
