They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That Fashanu pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
They are betting Walker proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Malachi Corley at pick No. 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Devontez Walker well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Ben Sinnott went about where he belonged in slot 103. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Bucky Irving at Round 5, Pick 1 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jarrian Jones in the 143rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Fabien Lovett in the 180th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Curtis Jacobs in pick 193, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Trey Taylor at the 231st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
