The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Landing Wiley that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
A tidy bit of business in the 34th overall pick, where Amarius Mims graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Kiran Amegadjie at the 68th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Brenden Rice in pick 103 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Simpson in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: Dylan Laube at pick No. 180 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cornelius Johnson in Round 6, Pick 18 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jared Wiley in slot 231 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
