The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Laube value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The Wiley reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Williams. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in the 34th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in the 68th pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Brenden Rice in slot 103, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jaylin Simpson in No. 137 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Laube at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Jared Wiley at pick 193 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
They took Trevin Wallace at par in Round 7, Pick 11, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
