The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
On value alone, Pritchett makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Ladd McConkey at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kiran Amegadjie at slot 68 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Theo Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 115. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nothing to complain about; Jaylin Simpson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A conviction pick on Dylan Laube at pick No. 149 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Nehemiah Pritchett at the 180th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Trente Jones at Round 6, Pick 18 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steele Chambers at pick 214 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Garret Greenfield at the 231st pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trevin Wallace in the 240th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
