The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Patriots walked right past.
That Irving pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Bo Nix at pick 34 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Ja'Lynn Polk at Round 3, Pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Cade Stover at par in No. 71, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in slot 103, where Bucky Irving graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylin Simpson in the 137th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jordan Jefferson in the 180th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Trente Jones at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Trevin Wallace went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
