The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Reaching for Gore Jr. left real value on the table behind him. McGlothern at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Xavier Legette at pick 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kiran Amegadjie in No. 68 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nothing to complain about; Jalen McMillan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Ben Sinnott was the payoff at pick No. 137. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Dwight McGlothern in the 180th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Gore Jr. in the 193rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value with a capital V on JD Bertrand in the Round 7 slot, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
