The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Wiley pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Greenfield falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Good price on Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 4, where Kingsley Suamataia graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at No. 103 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A clean, defensible pick in the 109th pick with a little surplus value in Cam Hart. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylin Simpson at the 137th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Jared Wiley in pick No. 180 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Jaylan Ford in pick 193, and the value did not follow. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Garret Greenfield slipping to pick 231 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
