The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Thomas value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
Steal is underselling it; Brock Bowers at the 34th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Roman Wilson all the way to No. 68, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Javon Baker at Round 4, Pick 4. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Josh Newton slipping to slot 137 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Dallin Holker in pick No. 180 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Dylan Laube at the 186th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
You do not let an edge rusher like Xavier Thomas reach pick 193 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nathan Thomas at the 231st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
