The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Simpson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Jayden Daniels went about where he belonged in the 5th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jordan Morgan in pick 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Blake Fisher at Round 3, Pick 4 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in No. 70; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Trey Benson was the payoff at the 104th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tyler Davis in pick No. 106 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Theo Johnson at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Dylan Laube in slot 140; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jaylin Simpson in the 182nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Trevin Wallace at par in Round 7, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
