Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Wiley pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Morgan at No. 34, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Devontez Walker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Audric Estime at par in pick 104, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Jones. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jared Wiley in Round 6, Pick 7 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 229. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
