After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Latham at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
JC Latham in slot 34 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kiran Amegadjie in Round 3, Pick 4. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy little value on Brenden Rice in the 102nd pick, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Theo Johnson in No. 136, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Fair-plus on Dwight McGlothern, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had cheaper options than Kimani Vidal at pick No. 231, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
