The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Rouse.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at the 34th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Devontez Walker at Round 3, Pick 4 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Braelon Allen in pick No. 103 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
They jumped the gun on Dallin Holker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Walter Rouse is a better player than the 180th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nice patience on Jordan Jefferson, who had no business lasting to slot 193. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in No. 231, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
