After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
However the rest shakes out, Odunze at that price is a win they earned. The Vidal reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Rome Odunze at Round 2, Pick 2 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kiran Amegadjie in pick No. 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Cam Hart in No. 103, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dallin Holker in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Fabien Lovett went about where he belonged in the 180th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Trente Jones at par in slot 193, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kimani Vidal in the 231st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
