The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In the end it comes back to Drake Maye, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Troy Fautanu in pick No. 34 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Devontez Walker in slot 43; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at pick 68. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Audric Estime at Round 4, Pick 4 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ben Sinnott in the 136th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Braelon Allen in the 182nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Christian Jones in No. 229, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
