The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They are betting Suamataia proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 34 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Devontez Walker went about where he belonged in slot 68. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Theo Johnson at pick No. 115 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Elijah Jones at the 137th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A tidy bit of business in pick 149, where Jarrian Jones graded well above the range. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tip Reiman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trente Jones in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Ryan Flournoy in slot 214, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Bub Means in Round 7, Pick 11; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
