The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Wiley left real value on the table behind him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

In pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Brian Thomas Jr. at slot 34 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in the 68th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Braelon Allen at the 103rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
They took Jaylin Simpson at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They paid up for Jared Wiley at No. 193 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Trente Jones was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A need, and now a little less of one.
