The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. That Irving pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Drake Maye in slot 3, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Brian Thomas Jr. in No. 34. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Kiran Amegadjie in the 69th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 103, where Bucky Irving graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
They let Ben Sinnott come to them and pounced at the 137th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Christian Jones in the Round 5 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kamal Hadden at Round 6, Pick 5 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jordan Jefferson at pick 193 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Trevin Wallace at pick No. 231 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
