Call it larceny. Smael Mondon Jr. sat on the board until the Round 6 slot, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. No fireworks, but a solid B.

The Cypress II pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 7
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Harold Fannin Jr. · TE · rank 35
Harold Fannin Jr. at No. 38 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 38
Jihaad Campbell at the 69th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.22 · Pick 86 · Andrew Mukuba · S · rank 70
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 86 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 60
TreVeyon Henderson in the 104th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
R5.6 · Pick 143 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 80
Barrett Carter in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R5.20 · Pick 157 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 147
A slide stopped in pick 157, with DeMonte Capehart worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 98
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 183 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Jaishawn Barham · LB · rank 197
Jaishawn Barham in No. 217 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Jared Wilson · C · rank 202
They robbed the room for Jared Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Jordan Hancock · S · rank 181
Jordan Hancock at pick 234 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Fentrell Cypress II · CB · rank 282
Fentrell Cypress II in the 238th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
