The Patriots put a flag in the ground for Ben Sinnott, 41 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
J.J. McCarthy at the 34th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tyler Guyton in slot 47 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Brenden Rice in pick 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Bucky Irving this early at the 74th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ben Sinnott in Round 4, Pick 4 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
James Williams at slot 136 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Cedric Gray in the 142nd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Nothing to complain about; Roger Rosengarten went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
