The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They banked enough surplus on Jones to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
They read the board right and Troy Fautanu was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 2. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Braelon Allen in pick 102 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Theo Johnson at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jarrian Jones at the 179th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid sticker price for Trevin Wallace in the 231st pick, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
