After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wilson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in the 34th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid a round early for Roman Wilson in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Matt Goncalves in slot 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ben Sinnott at the 136th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Frank Gore Jr. at No. 182 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Omar Speights at Round 7, Pick 9 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
