Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Fautanu pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The Vidal reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 2, where Troy Fautanu graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Javon Baker at pick 68 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kamren Kinchens at pick No. 103 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Dallin Holker in slot 145 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had Myles Harden higher than the Round 6 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
They liked Kimani Vidal enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 193. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach for KT Leveston in the 203rd pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A conviction pick on JD Bertrand at the 207th pick that the board grades a round light. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Bub Means. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
