The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Mims value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had Amarius Mims higher than Round 2, Pick 2, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Patrick Paul in the 68th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Javon Baker in the 104th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dwight McGlothern at pick No. 182 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They did well to land Frank Gore Jr. in No. 229, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Brevyn Spann-Ford in pick 245 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
