Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Cam Skattebo got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at slot 220.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nick Emmanwori at slot 38 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Tyler Warren in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Dylan Sampson at pick 77 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Danny Stutsman at Round 4, Pick 3. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Maxwell Hairston at pick No. 143 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jared Wilson in the 217th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at No. 220. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaishawn Barham in the 238th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
