The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
However the rest shakes out, Allen at that price is a win they earned. If Harrell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Adonai Mitchell in the 34th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kiran Amegadjie at Round 3, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Cam Hart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They robbed the room for Braelon Allen here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and AJ Barner at No. 180 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kitan Oladapo at pick No. 183 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylen Harrell in slot 193 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trevin Wallace in Round 7, Pick 11 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
