Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Pritchett falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The cost of the Gore Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Troy Fautanu slipping to No. 34 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Devontez Walker went about where he belonged in pick 68. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Brenden Rice in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Mason McCormick, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 180 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board fumbled Nehemiah Pritchett all the way to the 193rd overall pick, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Michael Barrett in Round 7, Pick 11, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
