They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Smith-Wade steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Spending an early pick on TE-EDGE with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The cost of the Van Pran reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
They reached a country mile for Patrick Paul at the 34th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Ja'Lynn Polk in slot 52; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Sedrick Van Pran in No. 68 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE that was not the priority.
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at pick No. 104 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Dominick Puni in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Chau Smith-Wade all the way to pick 191, and they scooped it up. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Jawhar Jordan at Round 7, Pick 4 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
