The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
If Spann-Ford pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. However the rest shakes out, Williams at that price is a win they earned.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brian Thomas Jr. at No. 34. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kingsley Suamataia slipping to slot 68 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 103rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Fabien Lovett at Round 5, Pick 1 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dylan Laube in the 180th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brevyn Spann-Ford this early at pick No. 193. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Isaiah Williams at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
