The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jacobs. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 2 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jalen McMillan in No. 103 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Jarrian Jones in the 137th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
They took Tip Reiman at par in pick 180, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cornelius Johnson at slot 193 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a linebacker like Curtis Jacobs reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
