When a board-topper like Carson Schwesinger slides to pick No. 241, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Every board in the league had Jones Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
They reached a country mile for Jared Ivey at the 53rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Cam Skattebo in pick No. 89, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Emery Jones Jr. at the 126th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 25 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
