The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Magee.
The Murphy reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Rome Odunze went about where he belonged in the Round 1 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
In pick No. 30 they get their quarterback of the future, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
They went early on Gabriel Murphy in the 68th overall pick, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zak Zinter in the 90th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Khyree Jackson in slot 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
