Call it larceny. Ja'Quinden Jackson sat on the board until No. 219, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Jahdae Barron at pick 14 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Aireontae Ersery in slot 38 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had cheaper options than Barrett Carter at the 69th overall pick, and it noticed. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Tyler Shough at par in pick No. 145, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Hayden Conner in Round 6, Pick 28 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Ja'Quinden Jackson at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A running back of that caliber at No. 222 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
