Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Jihaad Campbell, the No. 40 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 77th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Mason Graham at slot 35 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Will Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tyler Warren in Round 3, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jihaad Campbell in pick 77 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nicholas Singleton at the 105th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cody Simon at the 143rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
