Somebody in slot 73 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Jalon Walker, the No. 25 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Jackson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Nice patience on Emeka Egbuka, who had no business lasting to slot 36. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Alfred Collins in the 67th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jalon Walker in Round 3, Pick 9, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Domani Jackson in pick No. 103 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
