After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wilson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Adonai Mitchell at pick 34 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Patrick Paul at No. 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ruke Orhorhoro at the 74th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Khyree Jackson was the payoff at pick No. 103. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Johnny Wilson in the 137th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
