The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Johnson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Guyton at slot 37 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Khyree Jackson went about where he belonged in pick 104. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Dominick Puni in Round 4, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They liked Theo Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 136. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
