The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Drake Maye and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Adonai Mitchell at slot 34 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at pick No. 68, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 70th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Khyree Jackson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid up for Javon Foster at No. 103 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Jarrian Jones in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
