The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The cost of the Sinnott reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The Brade pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a passer to set the clock by, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Patrick Paul a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ricky Pearsall at slot 60 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They jumped the gun on Malachi Corley, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in the 99th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ben Sinnott at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
A safety of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 36 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Emani Bailey in pick 182, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Jared Wiley in slot 229, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
