The Patriots ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Little to argue with here, and the A says so.
That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Jones pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 20 they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Kingsley Suamataia at slot 52 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ruke Orhorhoro in No. 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Dominick Puni at par in the 83rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid a round early for Elijah Jones in the 103rd pick, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
