Call it larceny. Jake Majors sat on the board until the 171st pick, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Tuimoloau to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The Caelen Carson deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Wyatt Milum and all.
Pick-by-Pick
Wyatt Milum in slot 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Emeka Egbuka, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
JT Tuimoloau at pick No. 44 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Alfred Collins in No. 69 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jihaad Campbell in the 76th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Somehow Colston Loveland was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 13, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at the 105th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick 143 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in slot 171, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
